形態特徵

• Reddish herb. Stems slender, branched, to 12 cm tall.
• Leaves scale-like, narrowly ovate, acuminate, appressed, becoming smaller in upper stem.
• Racemes erect, short, loosely 3-7-flowered. Pedicels slender, ascending to erect, twice or a little as long as the bract, 1.5-2 mm long. Perianth-segments 6, sometimes 4-5, subequal, inflexed, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, glabrous, apex apiculate or slightly acute, ca. 0.7 mm long. Anthers 3 or 2, subsessile. Ovary numerous, obovate, ca. 0.25 mm long, upper part bullate; style linear, twice as long as the ovary.
• This species was described by Fukuyama and Suzuki (1936) based only on one individual. They distinguished it from <i>Sciaphila japonica</i> Makino in having male flowers which lack filaments exceeding the anthers (as pistillode in the original description) and variable in number of perianth-segments, and from <i>S. clemensae</i> Hemsl. in having subsessile stamens. I think, however, this may be most close to <i>S. corniculata</i> Becc., because perianth-segments of the male flower are equal (as subequal in the original description), the stamens are three with the short filament (not exceeding anthers), and the style is awl-shaped. However, <i>S. corniculata</i> has always 6 perianth segments against 6, sometimes 4 or 5 in <i>S. ramosa</i>.
